Here you will find detailed descriptions of my concert experiences. Keep in mind that they are highly bias as I'm a Worm addict.

March 19th, 2005 - Centrepointe Theatre
July 7th, 2005 - Carleton University
August 21st, 2005 - Ottawa Folk Festival

March 19th, 2005

Sadly, I didn't write much of a recap of this concert at the time, so I really don't have much to go by besides my memory.

This was my first ever experience of live Arrogant Worms, and the first concert I ever went to. (Yes, I am that lazy.) So of course I was really excited about it. My ticket was a birthday present from my friend Emma. And I must say I think it was the best present I got that year.

The opener was Chris White, who is a guy who uses a lot of puns. I'm not crazy about puns... so I really wasn't that amused. He seemed like a cool guy, but... so... many... puns... heh. I was more than happy when he made way for the Worms.

We were sitting pretty far back so it wasn't the greatest view or anything. It was a great time. Alas, I can't remember every song that was sung. Though I do recall hearing "Go To Sleep, Little Leech", and Emma's mom laughing so hard that she was practically crying. I had a great time. And bought "Three Worms and An Orchestra" during intermission, getting it signed afterwards. The only real disappointer was that Hailey and I spent half the time screaming for "Me Like Hockey" and it never got sung. The saddest part of that was that they said they were gonna sing a song about a sport, so we got excited... but it was "Let's Go Bowling". Darn. It was Mike's birthday and also Fibre Day. Yay for being regular!

I really wish I could describe this one better, but, honestly, it was a long time ago to me. So this is as good as it gets.

We found out about this concert just over a week before it was happening. To show how excited I was, here's an excerpt from my LJ:

OTTAWA!

WORMS!

JULY 7!

ME LIKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MUST GO.

OR BUST.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

*inchorent blabber*

Yep. That excited. So we organized the purchase of tickets and whatnot. This one involved mostly family. Emma, her brother and her mom went, as well as my parents and my sister. They were a lot less bouncy and excited than Emma and I though...

LJ entry of the actual concert:

After a humdinger of a time trying to find the parking lot (haha, running joke :P) and I basically ran through the building so we could get in line. Which didn't really exist. So we were among first in. Emma, Matthew (Emma's brother) and I headed to the front whilst the others stayed back. We routed ourselves in and waited.

I think Matthew, Ems and me were the only ones wearing Worms shirts. Matthew got to be water! I was right next to him! I could have been water!

Umm, stepping back, there was a huge amount of jokes about the parking, charities, mime solos and hemp cookies. On-going throughout the show, of course. Even worked into "Let There Be Guns." New songs were so great. I think of the ones I hadn't heard before "Mime Abduction" was my favourite. They were all really good though. I liked "Pressure Washer" a lot too. Apparently that one and "Irritable Bowel Syndrome" had my dad on the verge of tears from laughing. Good times.

There were 3 encore songs. I like encores.

Still no "Me Like Hockey". Oh well. I kinda wanted "Mountie Song" today too. No dice. No "Fuzzy Dice" either.

OOOOHH! Must bring up "Having Fun is Bad For You." During this song, Trevor does most of the vocals. The other 2, besides Mike playing guitar, do very litte. Last time, Chris found a wheelie thingy and rolled on stage. This place must not have had one. So he found a ladder. Put that in front of his mic. Then raised the mic. He tried to do a sexy leg wrap thing around it, but hurt himself. And when he sung these really high notes in the chorus he climbed up the ladder and leaned up there casually. You probly had to see it to get it. Heh.

Post-show wise, we hung out so we could be last in a non-long line. Doddled a bit. That was fun. Then went in line. And thus the conversation began.

It was so nerve-wrecking at first. I mean, since I'm so crazy about them, I kinda blab. But I wasn't so bad today. Got a random pict signed to use in the film and for personal yayness. As well as getting Trevor's signature on the DVD and Get Stupid! Then we gave them the disc with the trailers for Quest. And I was sort attempting to lead in to explain who I was, which I figured would take a lot of effort. But I said stuff about emailing them and Chris was like, "Oh! You made a website, right? So you're Rowena!" That was pretty darn cool. I wasn't expecting recognition. Shows just how awesome the Worms are. And we talked about the movie for a bit. Nothing really earth-shaking to mention here. But overall a very good day.

During the concert, Emma kept a little log of things that happened. It's more our for own amusement than being a truthful account. The set list is true though.

6:34 - Chris walks by and puts sheets on stage. Row implodes, Emma mops up drool.
6:37 - Mike walks out, smiles briefly and walks up stairs past us. More excitement.
6:40 - Row still bouncing. No sign of Trevor.
6:48 - Row wants to kill. STILL no sign of Trevor.
6:51 - Chris returns and exits by door to our right.
6:53 - Mike returns, chatting, and predictably wearing green.
6:58 - Row is going to hurl from excitement. Emma won’t stop writing recording things. Despite Row’s excitement she can still correct Emma’s correct speed of singing "Dangerous".
6:59 - WORM POWER! Hey, that's Mike. ... No, that's a twig.
7:00 - WORMS! EEE!

August 21st, 2005

Ah, the one we had been waiting for. Plans to go to Folk Fest started months beforehand. So the anticipation of it was high.

By this time, we'd finished filming Quest and had a copy of the DVD all finished to give to the Worms.

Once again, a LJ entry tells all:

Today was amazing.

I had a horrible night's sleep and was awake at 8:30. Tell me that that's normal for Row. Haha, no, it's not.

So I was feeling rotten in the morning. I was sick as hell in stomachness and just felt crappy.

And my mom deciding to take a shower midway through mine did not help. Ooooooh, cold water. Gah!

Anyway, skip ahead.

Got in car and found out Riley wasn't coming so we needed a replacement, so I called Eve and all was organized. Meant Emma's mom had to drive back out to C-bay to get Adam and Hailey. So she dropped me, Shireen and Ems at le planned meeting Tim's and we met Jen there and headed out to Folkfest grounds.

Pretty noneventful for awhile cuz of heat and Worms not being on til 2:30, though we did see Jeremy Fisher.

Eventually the others came and we sat around and some people wandered.

At the time of the first major event, most people were wandering, so it was just me, Shireen, Hailey and Emma's mom. This was when I saw Trevor walking in. Shireen and Hailey freaked out like little boy band obsessed girls. It was so funny. I thought they were gonna pull out little "Marry me, Trevor!" signs... kind of embarassing, really.

That's ok. They got back at me. Next came Chris. I fell off my chair. Heh, way to be calm, Row.

We went and got food and ate. Yummy. Anyway, we wandered back and got ready for the Worms to come on mainstage. Shireen, Hailey and I went like right in front of it in the "standing area". We were having such a good time screaming and such... but things were kinda weirdly planned and the so-called "standing area" became the "not-standing area". Confusing, I know.

They did some good songs in the workshop, and it was a very happy time.

Once that was done, we went across the park to the next stage they were playing at. We sat real close to the stage and Shireen Hails and I pulled out our "Vote Magnificent Mike" "Vote Trailer Trash Trevor" and "Vote Crazy Chris" signs to where they could easily be seen.

So when the Worms got there, they noticed said signs. Chris came over and asked if it was a Canadian Idol thing. We explained what it actually was and yeah... had a mini-convo about Quest once again and about not being there to see Kalan Porter, but to see them. So many Kalan Porter fans... but, not me. No Kalan Porter.

And this was around when the workshop started.

It was a really good one. We kinda heckled the host guy. The workshop was called "What was I thinking?" so he was explaining the ways it could be said. One related to 2 naked little girls. We made noise when he mentioned this... cuz he first just called them naked girls.

He then said "Oh, so you saw them then?"

And Shireen said, "Row! What did you do?!"

So I turned sincerely to the host guy, shrugged and said "I'm sorry. I really am."

Lots of laughter. Shireen and I are horrible, heckling fools.

Overall a very good workshop. Lots of good jokes.

Anddddd afterward we went forth and talked to Worms. First we got our signs signed. Trevor didn't wanna sign Chris or Mike's but did anyway. Mike and Chris both mocked Trevor cuz the pic of him is really girly. Said it was a good likeliness. Heh. There'll be pics of these signs in the pic section eventually if they're not there now. And we gave them the DVD. Shireen and I both got our Worm shirts signed.

And we got pics with them. Also should be in the pics section.

And then was the long wait til they went mainstage.

Various delays and food runs later, we were back in the "standing area" sitting and watching some bands. Good stuff.

When they came out, everyone automatically stood up and we couldn't see as well.

We were very loud. Very very loud.

It was short.. but wonderful. 50 minutes of Worms. And the crowd was rocking.

I will have no voice tomorrow.

They went off after an encore of "Big Fat Road Manager" to Hailey's delight. And we were high on spirits, but quick on fuel as we headed out.

T'was a very good day.

The first workshop, entitled "A Funny Thing Happened" consisted of "Mime Abduction", "Jesus' Brother Bob" and "Pressure Washer". Another band in the workshop, "Pardon My French" was hilarious as well, bringing a huge sing-a-long of "I Got You, Babe." Heh. Good times.

The second workshop, as I've told was called "What was I thinking?" had "The Monkey Song", "Hot Dog Song", "Particle Board" and "Malcolm".

The mainstage that night had "Last Saskatchewan Pirate", "Celine Dion", "Go To Sleep, Little Leech", "Siamese Twins", "I Pulled My Groin", "Canada's Really Big", "New Car Smell", "Having Fun is Bad For You" and "Big Fat Road Manager". I might've missed one... but I dunno.

Shireen and I were very camera happy this day, so there's a lot of pictures from it.
